Rainfall At Nightfall

Rain rattling on my window
Lightning cutting open the sky
The moon carries an innocent halo
Ignorant to the lonely mist cry

The reign of the cheeky dark
On this almost perfect night
Unchallenged without a mark
On comes the blinding street light

And as the city hurls to a stop
And the winds whistle by
Kids play with the rain drops
Not a surface left dry

Into the night we surrender
Swaying along to the sound of silence
Even the mighty sun goes under
To complete his hostile penance
